(officinalis CHAJX - angustifoglia MJLL)

Wooden and perennial shrub of the family of the labiates, it can have a height which varies from 15 - 60 cm up to one meter (there are more than 25 different species of it). It prefers calcareous, sunny and dry soils. The best quality grows between 800 and 1000 meters of altitude. The drug of the plants is represented by the flowers which are harvested at the end of the spring, until the end of June (according to the latitudes) cut at the base. 

The essential oil is obtained by distillation in steam from the flowers after a few hours from the harvest. The yield in essential oil varies from 0.3% - 0.5% and may be up to 1%. The essential oil is visually presented from colourless to yellowish and it has and elevated solubility within alcohol and oil. It has a chemical composition made from various families of mixtures whichare distributed depending on the geographical zone of cultivation, esters (50%); alcohol (35%); mono-terphenes (10-12%). The elevated contained of foreign makes it an oil with strong power antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial. The discreet way in alcohol as the linalool, the 1,4 terpene etc. they make him a discreet antimicotic and antiseptic. Excellent: against irritations , insect puncture and scorching, within nervous insomnia, within moments of anxiety and depression within cramps and muscular spasms, coadjutant for acne, dermatitis, etc. Used with lamp spreads aromas.
